When it’s calm, it’s simply a stunning turquoise. Aigua Blanques is also an official nudist beach: no tan lines here! 2. Cala Bassa, San AntonioBeing easily accessible by boat or bus from party town San Antonio, Bassa gets pretty busy in high season, but it has the added attraction of rock pools and the possibility of chilling in the shade of the Sabina trees that back the beach. Pack a beach towel and your favourite book. 3. Cala Xarraca, PortinatxLook at that clear turquoise water! While it’s only a small beach, Cala Xarraca is the place for underwater lovers, with excellent scuba conditions. The beach itself is small, rocky and sheltered, so it’s ideal for finding a little private paradise. 4. Cala Benirrás, Port de Sant MiguelBy day, it’s great for snorkelling and swimming, but Benirrás Beach is more famous for its evening entertainment – it’s drummers, who draw an enthusiastic crowd as they ‘drum down the sunset’. Go on a Sunday evening with a few beers, grab a pizza and join the crowds. 9. Cala Jondal, San JoséJust up the road from the party resort of Playa d’en Bossa, Cala Jondal is the place to go to see and be seen by day in Ibiza as the famous and the loaded top up their tans before strutting their stuff by night. You get to it by a wooden walkway through red sandstone cliffs that protect it from the breeze, meaning it’s a cracking sun-trap – pass the Hawaiian Tropic! 7. Cala Vadella, Sant Josep de sa TalaiaCala Vadella is a family-friendly beach of the highest order, with lovely white powder sand sloping down to a shallow, sheltered bay, plus all the amenities to keep everyone happy on a day at the beach. 5. Cala Conta, San AntonioDon’t be put off by the parasol army here, this is one of the best beaches in Ibiza so there’s usually a shortage of sunbeds come August. It’s worth a visit though, especially if you duck into Sunset Ashram for drinks with a view. Too busy? Hire a pedalo out to the islet to get some R&R. San Antonio, Sant Josep, Ibiza Town: not sure where to stay in Ibiza? Read the Ibiza travel guide before choosing.6. Cala d’Hort, Ibiza TownCala d’Hort is part of a National Park, created to safeguard it against tourist development. In 1999, 11,000 environmentalists fought the so-called ‘Battle of Cala d’Hort’ in a protest against the building of a hotel, golf course and desalinisation plant in the area. You’ll see why they were so keen to preserve this scenic spot.
